GATE Introduction



When we say about the "GATE" (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is one of the most prestigious national-level exam that assesses candidates for comprehensive understanding in various undergraduate-level subjects in Architecture, Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Humanities, Science, Technology.

As we knows that GATE is a national-level examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Architecture/ Arts/ Commerce/ Engineering/ Humanities/ Science/ Technology. GATE 2025 will be a computer-based test (CBT) and which is being organized by IITR (Indian Institutes of Technology Roorkee). And when we say about the GATE examination, It will be conducted by IISc Bengaluru and seven IITs (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee), on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GoI).

When we say about the Papers, GATE 2025 will have a total of 30 test papers comprising full papers and sectional papers. And here candidates have the option to appear for one or two test papers from the allowed two-paper combinations(Explain ine below article). And the GATE score obtained by the candidates will remain valid for a period of THREE years from the date of announcement of results.

IIT Roorkee is the Organising Institute for GATE 2025. As we already explains that "GATE 2025 is being conducted by IISc Bengaluru and seven IITs comprising IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee" on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

And the candidates who has qualify in GATE can seek admission with possible financial assistance to Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Architecture/ Arts/ Commerce/ Engineering/ Humanities/ Science/ Technology; and Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Engineering, Science, and Humanities, in Institutions supported by Ministry of Education (MoE) and other Government agencies. And on of the other feature for GATE is that GATE score is also used by some colleges and Institutions for admission to postgraduate programs without MoE scholarship. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have also been using GATE score for recruitment.

Test papers will be in English. And each GATE paper is of 100 marks and GA (General Aptitude) is common for all papers which is of 15 marks. And rest of the paper covers the respective test paper syllabus (85 marks).

And If they wish to appear in second paper from the above two paper combination, they can add respective paper in their original application. And in case of multiple application, only one will be accepted and remaining application will be rejected without any refund for paid free.

Well for any rectification Candidates can login to GOAPS (goaps.iitr.ac.in). Last Year date for rectification is up to 20th November, 2024.

PwD candidates are also allowed to make rectifications/changes/modifications in GOAPS (https://goaps.iitr.ac.in/login). And last year date is up to 22nd November, 2024.

Note:-*PwD candidate with some benchmark disability which is greater than 40% are eligible for compensatory time of one hour. Eligibility Criteria



GATE 2025 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Before filling an application we advice every candidates to ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria for Gate 2025.

Candidates who are currently studying in 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who have completed and government approved degree program in Arts/ Architecture/ Commerce /Engineering/ Humanities/ Science/ Technology are eligible to appear for Gate 2025.

Some professional Societies/Institutions which conduct examination in various fields of engineering are basically given below.


  • The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
  • The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
  • The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
  • The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChE)
  • The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
  • The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)

Candidates who possess certification from any such professional societies must ensure that those examinations are approved by MoE/AICTE/UGC/ UPSC as being equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech./ B.Arch./ B.Planning, etc.

Candidates who have obtained/are duing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Candidates must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or have completed their Bachelor degree in field of Arts / Architecture / Commerce / Engineering / Humanities / Science / Technology.

Any of candidate fulfilling the above mentioned criteria is eligible to appear for Gate 2025.

(1)Any candidate who is pursuing any higher degree or in possession of a degree higher than that mentioned in below table are allowed for appear for Gate 2025.

(2)Any of the candidate with B.Sc./B.A./B.Com degrees (3-year program) desirous of seeking admission to Masters programs in IITs and IISc.
